A chemist of the imagination.
One of Austria’s leading artists between world wars. He created bizarre and mysterious scenes of an unsettling world of surreal imagery.
Inspired by Romantic Art the Austrian painter belonged to the tradition known as New Objectivity, an artistic movement similar to Magical Realism.
Born in Wroclaw he studied chemical engineering in vienna from 1911. He began working with oils in the 1920’s.
He disappeared on the eastern front near Toruń in January 1945, whilst serving with the German Wehrmacht.
